What problem does bulp solve?
More and more people are using smart devices to track and monitor all kinds of health data. But only by bringing together the full set of measurements you can get the complete picture — whether for yourself or for someone in a care or support setting. With so many devices from so many manufacturers, it’s easy to see where the problems arise: incompatibility, data silos and vendor lock-in.

How does bulp solve this?
bulp is an open hardware and software platform for healthcare devices. It lets devices from any manufacturer communicate through a variety of interfaces. bulp centrally collects information about a person’s condition in multiple ways, automatically responds to changes in their environment and can optionally alert caregivers, medical staff or family members.

What’s our vision?
bulp aims to improve safety and independence for everyone involved in all kinds of care and support situations through technology. It lightens the workload for caregivers, giving them more time for the tasks that technology can’t solve. As an open architecture, bulp aims to make healthcare devices and their infrastructure affordable for everyone.

How is bulp structured?
At the heart of the system is the “bulp.station”, a locally operated hardware hub. Devices connect to the bulp.station, sending data that provides a comprehensive overview of the situation. In the “bulp.app”, this data is displayed in real time. Based on a personalized set of rules, actions can be triggered — for example, alarms. The app also manages people, rooms and devices.

Is bulp open source?
Yes — bulp follows the open-core approach. The bulp.station software is freely available under the GPL-3.0 license. Learn more at healthcore.dev.

What technology does bulp use?
bulp builds on established technologies and standards. To connect healthcare devices to the bulp.station, it supports smart home standards like Thread and ZigBee, as well as Bluetooth, LoRa and Wi-Fi.

What makes bulp unique?
bulp is designed with ease of use in mind. Its workflows are tailored to the needs of its users. It’s not a closed system — it’s open to third-party devices. bulp runs locally, ensuring data privacy. And because bulp supports smart home standards, healthcare devices can be combined with smart home components. For example: if a person’s fall is detected at home, electric blinds can be raised automatically to give emergency services quick and unobstructed access — no problem with bulp.
